Pricing and Sizes

Here is the list of plants grown during the current year with additions and returning favourites shown in bold. Because of the size of our range, the unpredictability of demand, some of the more obscure plants are produced in very small numbers which quickly sell out. We are unable to guaranteed that all plants will be available all the time (though most are). Please contact Arne Herbs with a shopping list and our experts will be happy to help with plant availability and prices.

We can provide specimens in pots up to 35 litres for RHS shows etc, but if you will need anything this big, please give us several months prior notice. Landscapers will receive a formal tender.

We regret that we do not accept credit cards, but can take cash or cheque payments.

Despatch

We would be happy for you to visit the nursery to collect your plants in person.

If this is not possible we are able to arrange some deliveries by registered carrier. We use Royal Mail special delivery for orders under 2 Kgs. This guarantees delivery by 12 noon the day after despatch and we are confident in the satisfactory condition of perennial plants upon arrival.

The delivery of your plants will not be made if you are not at home to receive it If this is inconvenient, let us know and we will send by ordinary first class post instead. Please note that we are unable to accept liability for losses resulting from theft, late delivery or any damage to next-day unsigned-for consignments. If you are going on holiday let us know and we will despatch at a time to suit you.

One or two plants ex one litre or smaller pots may be despatched for the price of the plant plus £8.50. Larger orders are despatched via TNT 3 -10 Kgs £21.00 and 11 - 30 Kgs for £27.00 This applies to mainland England, Wales and most of Scotland. We will confirm this price when you check the availability of your order.

Heavier orders may be delivered to mainland destinations in England and Wales either in our own van or by nominated specialist horticultural carrier at a negotiated price. Trees are prohibitively expensive to send and are best collected in your own car. Flowering bulbs eg large Alliums and lilies are only despatched when dormant.

All plant orders totals at £15 or over ( including transport charges) include a FREE GIFT from the award winning Celtic Herbal Company.

Colour

We try and ensure that colours are true. however that of seed raised stock can not be guaranteed. If your planting scheme requires a specific colour, let us know and we will try and provide two year old plants that have flowered the previous year. Obviously this does not apply to annuals and biennials.

Annuals and Biennials

Annuals like Basil are unsuitable for mail order. However, they are easily grown from seed or you can collect plants from the nursery. Arne Herbs does not sell seed but a list of nurseries that do may be found in the RHS Plantfinder. Biennials usually travel satisfactorily but they are never as reliable in transit as perennials and their despatch is entirely at the client's discretion. Arne Herbs accepts no liability for any problems incurred during or subsequent to, the transit of these plants.

Gift Tokens

Arne Herbs sells its own gift tokens which may be exchanged for plants either at the nursery or at any farmers markets we attend. Please add the amount you wish to spend to the order form at the end of the catalogue. Arne Herbs gift tokens are not redeemable at other nurseries or for cash

Damaged Parcels

Please open your parcel as soon as it arrives and check the contents, let us know of any damage or omissions within twenty four hours as later claims can not be accepted. Perennials seldom present any difficulties. we will advise you on those that will not tolerate root disturbance such as Rhus, Dictamnus and some Asclepias.

Poisons

Although many of the plants we sell were used medicinally in the past, they are now regarded as highly toxic, the essential rule therefore is to NEVER to put anything in your mouth unless you are fully aware of both the plant’s properties and your own allergies. Skin contact with some plants may also cause an adverse reaction.

Historic Authenticity

Although Arne Herbs stocks a large range of North American herbs, our main interest is in European historic gardens and we endeavour to stock as many authentic Medieval and Renaissance plants as possible. A Modern to Middle English plant dictionary is available from our office. Arne Herbs is always pleased to advise in this area of garden design and with proper planning Medieval gardens will provide colour which will appeal to all visitors.

Help

We are always pleased to help customers with their plant enqiries and advise on the care and uses of the many plants in our collection. You can contact Arne Herbs here.
