Wild Flowers

We maintain a stock of a wide range of British, North American and Mediterranean wild flowers, including rare herb species for you to buy. Many of these have a valuable medicinal, culinary or conservation purpose and are very attractive when planted in a wild flower meadow.

We are pleased to help clients with advice on creating gardens with wild flowers, including suitable plant species to buy. Plants for large garden designs and conservation projects are supplied to order.

Medicinal Plants

Arne Herbs supplies a range of medicinal plants and rare herbs unobtainable elsewhere, many of these can cause rapid death when ingested or severe skin lesions when touched.

Mediterranean Gardens

Arne Herbs is frequently asked to supply plants for Mediterranean garden designs, which are traditionally said to enjoy hot dry Summers and warm wet winters.

However, it should be remembered that "Mediterranean" is a generalisation for a wide range of habitats so that on the lee side of mountains, for instance, the Winters are both cold and dry and plants from this environment may not survive warm damp winters. Arne Herbs is happy to advise you on the best Mediterranean plants to buy for your garden conditions.

Historic Plants

Medieval Garderns

Lists of plantings of Medieval and early Renaissance gardens are now widely available in bookshops. Arne Herbs is pleased to make information on its data bank available to clients using its consultancy service, otherwise a fee is chargeable. The nursery tries to maintain all the plants mentioned in the Crescenzi list of c1305 and in Braccio's survey of the Carreggi garden c1480 that will survive in a temperate climate.

Biblical and Koranic Plants

Many of the plants in modern American evangelical translations of the Bible would have caused Christ and his disciples considerable amazement if they had tripped across them in the Holy Land. Rather than true botanic identifications, these are allegories intended for a redneck readership, though it has to be admitted that the KJAV isn’t that much better. The traditional Islamic garden contains a greater wealth of planting than is found in the Koran itself and this is reflected in most Muslim cemeteries. Arne Herbs has been providing plants for both Christian and Islamic gardens for many years and takes great pride in supplying accurately identified plants.

Arne Herbs Nursery can provide you with Corsican mint, camomile and thyme lawns to order. Traditional edges including dwarf box, thrift, Santolinas and lavenders are also supplied.
