Santolina
Santolinas are low growing woody shrubs which are usually found on the hills beside the Mediterranean, The taxonomy of the genus is a complete shambles and we have had to re-label the lot this year so it would be safer to order by description rather than name. They have few medicinal or culinary virtues beyond discouraging flies, but are valuable for mass planting, ideal for parterres and may often be topiarised. They require vigorous pruning to avoid "legginess" Flrs are almost invariably yellow. Greens are usually tougher than greys. Please ask us for bulk rates

.
| Santolina chamaecyparissus Cotton Lavender
| The most popular form for parterres and knots, grey and compact. Said to repel flies. Tight white minutely toothed lvs, yellow flrs. A perfect plant for control freaks as it will stand any amount of clipping and shaping |
| Santolina chamaecyparissus "Lambrook silver"
| Lvs shading slightly towards green in this unexciting variety |
| Santolina chamaecyparissus "Lemon Queen"
| Rather pointless version of the wild form. Low growing with lvs coloured like last weeks snow, it is too easily trodden on …. by accident of course
| Santolina chamaecyparissus Dwarf form
| A lower growing version of above collected as a seed from a single plant found by writer in the Corbieres. Stock consequently extremely limited |
| Santolina pinnata
| Mid-Green cylindrical lvs and creamy flrs |
| Santolina pinnata var neapolitana Neapolitan Cotton Lav
| Silvery grey and delightfully free flowing unlike the species above, ideal for softening edges of hard landscaping. Bright yellow flrs |
| Santolina rosmarinifolia "Primrose Gem"
| Similar to above but with large pale yellow coloured pompom flrs
| Santolina rosmarinifolia formerly S virens and S viridis Green Cotton Lavender
| Slender bright green foliage contrasts beautifully with buttercup-yellow flrs "Virens" and "viridis" have apparently now been scrapped as specific names which should make our lives easier once people stop asking for them |
